Doctors and healthcare professionals may qualify for Golden Residence through the relevant health-specialist or skilled-professional category, but a medical qualification alone does not establish eligibility. Abu Dhabi applicants should distinguish clinical licensing, the required endorsement or category evidence, and the final residence issuance process.
Which health route fits the role?
The ICP Golden Residency Guide recognises leading healthcare specialists through a recommendation from the Ministry of Health and Prevention or the relevant local authority. It separately describes skilled professionals whose eligibility involves employment, occupational level, education and salary.
The ADRO specialist guidance gives Abu Dhabi-specific health criteria. It identifies a bachelor's qualification or equivalent, a valid Department of Health licence and endorsement by the Department of Health. Its five-year UAE-experience condition is expressly described as applying to technicians and assistant roles, not every doctor.
Do not apply that experience phrase to all healthcare applicants or assume all occupations use identical endorsements. The precise role and selected category determine the test. A pharmacist, a medical technician and a specialist physician may need different professional evidence.
A practising licence is distinct from residence
A Department of Health licence concerns permission to practise the regulated profession in Abu Dhabi. Golden Residence concerns immigration status. Approval of one does not automatically grant the other.
Check whether your licence is current and corresponds to the work you perform. If you are changing employer, specialty or professional classification, establish how the relevant professional records must be updated. An overseas licence or a degree certificate should not be described as equivalent to a current Abu Dhabi practising licence without confirmation.
The Department of Health Golden Visa page directs healthcare applicants towards the relevant residence support. Use current regulator and TAMM instructions rather than a historical announcement about a previous group of doctors receiving visas.
Understand the endorsement
An employer's recommendation, a professional reference and an endorsement from the competent authority serve different purposes. A hospital letter may explain your work, but it is not automatically the Department of Health endorsement requested by the local category.
Ask which endorsement service applies and what the regulator needs to assess the application. Provide the actual role, licence and employment history. Where an experience condition applies to the role, use records showing dates and duties instead of relying on a general CV assertion.
Do not purchase a supposed endorsement from a private provider without identifying the competent government issuer. Administrative help may be legitimate, but the provider cannot create the authority's professional judgement.
Current submission arrangements
At the October 2026 review, ADRO says direct nomination requests for its elite health-specialist category are unavailable through ADRO. It directs applicants to TAMM's Scientists and Specialists health-professional category, subject to that category's requirements.
This is not a promise that every licensed clinician can use the alternative without assessment. Follow the linked live service and confirm its document list. If a provider cites an older ADRO workflow, ask how it corresponds to the service currently accepting submissions.
Keep the application reference and distinguish endorsement, nomination and residence issuance. A request accepted for professional review is not an issued residence permission.
When the skilled-professional route is relevant
A healthcare employee may also consider the skilled-professional category if they meet its separate conditions. Current ICP and ADRO guidance includes UAE employment, MOHRE level one or two, a bachelor's degree or equivalent and monthly salary of at least AED 30,000, with licensing where required.
Those salary conditions should not be described as a universal minimum for every health-specialist recommendation route. Conversely, possession of a professional licence does not waive the salary requirement when the applicant chooses the skilled-professional route.
Use the category that the records actually support. An applicant should not mix the favourable elements of two routes while omitting the conditions of each.
Prepare an intelligible professional file
Organise the passport and status documents, academic qualification, licence, category-specific endorsement and relevant employment records. Check consistency of name, professional title and dates across the documents.
If a certificate uses a former name or the institution's name has changed, prepare the proper connecting evidence. Keep clinical records and patient information out of a residence portfolio unless a competent authority specifically requests lawful supporting material. Professional achievements can usually be explained without disclosing identifiable patient details.
Plan residence, work and family separately
Golden Residence does not remove the employer's applicable work-permission obligations or the clinician's duty to maintain professional authorisation. Confirm those arrangements when changing residence category.
Include health insurance, Emirates ID and dependant applications in the timetable and budget. The Golden residence explanation sets out the wider sequence. Proceed once the role-specific category, endorsement and live submission route are clear, rather than treating a healthcare job title as an automatic ten-year permission.
Check professional titles across the file
A hospital may use an internal job title different from the regulator's licensed category. Preserve both accurately and explain their relationship through the appropriate employer or regulator record. Do not relabel a technician as a specialist physician because the team performs specialist work. The distinction can affect the applicable experience condition and endorsement. A short verified explanation is preferable to a CV that obscures the precise licensed role being assessed.
The category-based document guidance helps distinguish the professional endorsement from identity and residence-stage evidence.
