Review employment benefits before signing by separating guaranteed cash, conditional payments, non-cash cover and expenses you must fund yourself. An Abu Dhabi package can look generous while leaving important eligibility or payment questions unresolved. Use the written contract and policies to test the offer against your household's actual needs.
Confirm the employer and framework
Check the full legal entity, position and normal workplace. Establish whether the relationship follows the federal private-sector framework, ADGM Employment Regulations or a government appointment system. A benefit described in one regime should not simply be assumed to apply to another.
Ask which documents form the agreement: the contract, compensation schedule, benefit policies and any specific annexes. Obtain the versions being incorporated before signing. A recruiter explaining that benefits follow company policy has identified a document you need to read, not completed the review for you.
Reconcile guaranteed cash
Write down basic salary and each fixed allowance separately. Check whether the advertised total already includes housing or transport. Confirm payment frequency and when the first payroll payment is expected. If the figures differ across the offer and contract, request a corrected breakdown.
Keep variable bonuses and commission separate. Ask how eligibility, calculation, approval and payment work, including what happens on departure. Do not include a target incentive in the minimum budget needed for rent and household bills. An achievable sales target and an unconditional salary promise are different commitments.
Review housing and transport as arrangements
For housing, identify cash allowance, employer-provided accommodation or reimbursement. Ask about deposits, payment timing, utilities and what happens when employment ends. An annual entitlement paid later may not provide the money required for an initial rental payment.
For transport, establish the actual workplace and attendance pattern. Check whether support is cash, company transport or expenses subject to approval. Read any restrictions on vehicles and personal use. The transportation allowance guide explains why a policy cap should not be treated as guaranteed income.
Check medical cover in usable detail
Request the insurer or scheme information, start date and eligibility rules. Check whether dependants are included and who pays any additional premium. Do not infer family cover from the employee's eligibility or from the fact that an employer assists with residence paperwork.
Review the network, relevant exclusions, approval requirements and employee contributions against your circumstances. If continuity of treatment matters, obtain specific confirmation from the appropriate insurer or administrator. Employment-package review cannot replace a policy's actual coverage decision. Also establish when cover ends on departure so that you can plan a transition.
Examine leave and travel separately
Read the applicable leave provisions and how requests are approved. Distinguish the legal entitlement from company enhancements. A travel payment does not approve the dates of a holiday, while approved leave does not automatically establish that an employer will pay for the flight.
For annual tickets or cash support, check the eligible people, destination basis, service condition and claim cycle. Ask how unused entitlement is treated and whether any repayment is proposed on early departure. Use the annual flight guide to separate holiday benefits from other travel obligations.
Identify family and relocation conditions
If the offer includes school fees, relocation expenses or temporary accommodation, read the qualifying rules and payment schedule. Check whether support depends on a named dependent, approved institution, particular grade or receipts. A headline cap does not establish that every expense within that amount will be reimbursed.
Ask about advances and repayment clauses before committing to a move. Establish which costs are employer obligations under the applicable rules and which are optional contractual enhancements. Do not accept a vague promise to reimburse everything or a vague requirement to repay all costs without an itemised explanation.
Understand service-based and departure benefits
Find out which end-of-service arrangement applies and how it is recorded. Ordinary federal gratuity and an enrolled alternative scheme are not interchangeable assumptions. ADGM and government employment require their own assessment. Retain records of joining date, basic salary changes and any scheme enrolment information.
Read probation, notice and final-payment terms together with the benefit policies. Some payments may have defined conditions on departure, but a policy does not by itself prove that every proposed forfeiture or deduction is lawful. Ask for important consequences to be explained before signing, particularly where the sums affect your ability to leave.
Compare offers on a consistent basis
Use the same categories for each offer: guaranteed annual cash, conditional cash, essential non-cash cover, upfront costs and unresolved terms. Treat hypothetical calculations as your own planning assumptions rather than a statement of prevailing Abu Dhabi benefits. Avoid adding an allowance twice because it appears in both a package total and a breakdown.
Write down the questions that could change your decision and obtain answers through the genuine employer contact. Keep the final version and any agreed exceptions with the signed contract. If a substantial ambiguity remains, seek suitable advice. A completed checklist means you understand the commitment and its conditions, rather than simply having ticked every advertised benefit.
